I recently received a package (actually two!) from China. Some new model cars in my future!
The freight forwarding company I use does a great job.
Just some random bits of foam in there.
It’s a Buick Excelle, known in the USA as the Suzuki Verona wagon.
The detail is pretty impressive, they even put the stickers on the back of the sun visors.
The engine is incredibly detailed as well.
I didn’t take that many pictures of this one, but the detail was great. there were some paint bubble blemishes, and the front toe was really far out, but otherwise, great model.
NEXT!
Inexplicably, a few of these boxes had cardboard with Staples tape on it.
This is a 2008 Tianjin FAW Wei Zhi. it was actually super cheap. Only about $10 + ship.
I have to mention, before we go on, that this one came with a couple of nice glasses clothes, and 3 keychains? I didn’t order these, but they sure included them.
Pretty nice. And apparently, I could have ordered it with custom specific Chinese license plates if I wanted to.
This car probably had the most flaws. it had a chip on the rear “window.”
There was bubbling in the paint on the door and on the hood.
The interior paint was still tacky, which was a bit gross. and slightly filthy.
(Maybe the glasses cloths and keychains were to make up for this crappy interior paint?)
Well, at least I know this car is 1:18!
More Staples tape.
It’s a VW Santana!
It was in cling wrap inside the box.
Really, really nice detailing on this, although the hood didn’t want to stay open.
Only
thing wrong with this, and it was a super nitpick:
The hood doesn’t fit properly when closed.
Changfeng CS7! I was worried the damage to the box was gonna have damage on the car.
Plastic wrap...
And paper underneath.
Even the transfer case is modeled. That’s pretty cool.
Even the sticker on the battery.
This one had random tissue paper in it.
Brilliance BS6!
Gorgeous
interior,
and the seats even slide back and forth on sliders!
HOWEVER, when putting it back in the box, the door came off!
Great.
I did get it back on, though.
What do you think, guys?
Is getting models of Chinese cars cool?

I’m not really a fan of mid 2000s chinese cars, but knowing that such detailed models exist of them makes me very, very happy.

and I only picked these because they were interesting and really cheap! if I had gotten models of a few others I wanted, it could have been even cooler, but they were expensive. (the Land Wind X7, Geely Emgrand EC7, and Geely Meirenbao)

I bet that Brilliance does better in a crash than the real thing.

I dunno, is it fun collecting scale models of anonymous Chinese cars with no technical merit other than being cheap?
Kidding aside, this is cool and I had no idea these cars even had scale models. Where you at and are you into Chinese cars in particular?

Models of cars you like looking at but might not ever be able to own? Totally Uncool.
Side question: is there a Kinja for model kits, or does that fall under LaLD?

Amazing. I love 1:18 normal cars. The red SUV/crossover kinda has the looks of a Hyundai

There is one for model kits but I hear it is not very busy, forget the name of it. LALD is supoised to be die-cast only but they are pretty lenient on that since there are die-cast model kits out there too.

So I work in China and I do see these well detailed models however the shop I saw them at the guy wanted about 500 rmb (about 100 CAD) for one ... I just walked away. I guess my point is well done getting these and at a good price also. Also I think the casts are cool!

Detroit-ish, Michigan, USA. and yeah, I’m into Chinese cars. it’s very cool how they manage to make so many different designs.

Considering the door fell off, you’d probably lose that bet. :)
Now you know what the BS stands for!
Be careful, friend. BE VERY CAREFUL.
